Washington Plada

Composer, Educator

Washington Plada is a contemporary music composer from Uruguay, currently based in Kansas City, Missouri. His work is deeply influenced by his Uruguayan heritage, drawing on the folk traditions of Tango, Milonga, and Candombe. This unique background blends the lively essence of South American music with the sophisticated structures of Western contemporary sound.

His music has been recognized with the prestigious Ibermúsicas award and featured at international events such as the International Computer Music Conference (ICMC), the New York City Electroacoustic Music Festival (NYCEMF), and through a residency at CMMAS in Morelia, Mexico. His collaborators include Estelí Gomez, the Delgani String Quartet, and members of Sandbox Percussion.

Washington is currently pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts in Composition at the University of Missouri–Kansas City, where he also teaches composition and instrumentation as a graduate teaching assistant.
