Washington Plada
Composer, Educator
I'm Washington Plada, a contemporary music composer based in Kansas City. My work is deeply influenced by my Uruguayan heritage, drawing on the folk traditions of Tango, Milonga, and Candombe. This unique background blends the lively essence of South American music with the sophisticated structures of Western contemporary sound. My commitment to fresh, innovative music is evident in my collaborations with the Delgani String Quartet, two-time Grammy Award winner Esteli Gomez, and members of Sandbox Percussion. As a graduate teaching assistant at the University of Missouri Kansas City, I teach composition and instrumentation. Each of my compositions is a journey, offering listeners an opportunity to navigate diverse musical landscapes and discover the confluence of tradition and modernity.
"Music is enough for a lifetime - but a lifetime is not enough for music."
~ Sergei Rachmaninoff
